Life and Legend of Pocahontas
Murals of Baltimore was contracted by the Cook Foundation and Gloucester Main Street Association to create a mural about the life and legend of Gloucester County native, Pocahontas. Pocahontas was the daughter of Chief Powhatan that ruled during the time English Explorers arrived in Virginia in early 1600’s. During Virginia’s 300th Anniversary, Mr. Michael Kirby painted and designed this elaborate mural about Pocahantas’ life in Virginia and England. The upper section of the mural is dedicated to the story of Pocahontas and the lower section shows vignettes of the story of her people the Powhatans in different stones from Virginia. The marble faux stonework that frames the mural and hides windows in the building also shows the King of England, King James.
Murals of Baltimore completed all the work from designing to stuccoing the wall to painting the wall with its 3D look. The mural took over a year to complete and can be found on the side of the local county library on Main St. in Gloucester, Virginia.
The mural is located at 6920 Main St., Gloucester, Virginia.
